GUEST SPEAKER: Rebecca Alleyne
TOPIC: Family Law & Mediation
Rebecca Alleyne is a lawyer and a family law mediator who has practiced exclusively in the area of family law since she was called to the BC bar 12 years ago. Through her practice, Ms. Alleyne has watched families separate and, in doing so, exhaust themselves emotionally and financially. Because the court process can be very expensive, time consuming, stressful and animosity building it can destroy families. After the separation is complete, parents still need to talk about their children’s doctor appointments, attend sporting events and sit beside one another years down the road at their child’s graduation ceremony. As often as possible, Ms. Alleyne tries to assist parties to separate without destroying their ability to communicate with one another for the benefit of their children.
As a mediator, Ms. Alleyne helps to resolve disputes, negotiate quality agreements and provides cost-effective and timely services for a complete range of family law issues, including adoptions, cohabitation, pre- marital issues and separation and divorce issues. Through her significant mediation training and family law experience she uses her knowledge to support and facilitate effective discussions between couples to solve their immediate family law issues and preserve existing relationships, wherever possible.
