MEETING: Tuesday, April 16, 2019


It is that time of year again when we have our Annual General Meeting and Elections. More importantly though WE NEED YOUR INPUT into the direction the association will take.

When the association began 45 years ago in 1974 it was to facilitate a sense of community amongst legal support staff, then called legal secretaries. At that time there were similar associations popping up all over Canada – most now are long since gone. At that time offices did not have computers – they had typewriters. There was no email or social media so often times an association like ours was your only resource for continued education, networking and socializing with likeminded individuals. It was also a great source of assistance and mentorship, particularly if you were working with a sole practitioner or in a new area of law.

The life of a legal assistant is very different now. We are still relied upon for our administrative skills, but while some of us continue to work in a traditional office, others work remotely. We are all still juggling the office phones, but now have the addition of faxes and emails, and most networking is done using cell phones and social media.

WE NEED YOUR HELP to move the association forward with the times, if that is the direction you want. In order for the association to continue we need new people and new ideas. What would the ideal meeting look like to you? How often should we meet – once a month, every other month, two or three times a year? What kind of speakers are you interested in? What ideas do you have for seminars or other legal education? Which executive position might you be interested in doing? Do you want to elect an entirely new executive?

Great, let’s do it! Please join us. Bring someone new with you. Let’s make this the kind of association that works for you.




Join us for the Topaz Buffet dinner including Lemon Herb Chicken, roast potatoes, pasta salad, green salad, hot seasonal vegetables, and multi-grain dinner rolls. Assorted sweets and squares for dessert. Coffee, tea and fountain soft drinks are included.
