TOPIC: What Every Law Office Can Do To Help the Unrepresented Litigant

  • Marlene Russo
  • Wendy MacKenzie
  • Brett Pulak

In the July 2017 issue of The Advocate Victoria lawyer and mediator Marlene Russo published an article What Every Law Office Can Do To Help The Unrepresented Litigant wherein she described resources available to assist people at the Justice Access Centres (J.A.C.) available in Victoria, Vancouver and Nanaimo.

J.A.C.’s are a place to go when a person needs help with family and civil law issues that affect their everyday life, such as separation or divorce, income security, employment, housing or debt. A range of information and services are offered designed to help people find an early and affordable solution.

They can help assess what a person needs, provide information about their legal and related issues and provide referral services and resources that are available for their given situation such as self-help and information services, dispute resolution and mediation options, limited legal advice,  community resources and agencies, free publications as well as courses and presentations.  There is a whole team at each centre ready to help with family and civil justice issues.

Along with Ms. Russo from the Victoria J.A.C. we are pleased to have Self-Help Room Coordinator, Wendy MacKenzie, and Justice Interviewer, Brett Pulak.
