The objective of the Victoria Legal Support Staff Association is to establish good fellowship among all legal support staff, to stimulate professional development among all legal support staff, to further our knowledge of the law and to uphold its honour and dignity and to promote a higher standard of ethics among all legal support staff.
There are five classes of members:
ACTIVE – Those who are currently involved in the legal field or who have subsequently retired.
ASSOCIATE – Those who are currently engaged in a legal training course at a local institution.
LIFE – A member who has performed some special service to the Victoria Legal Support Staff Association may be awarded a life membership by a majority vote of the active members present at a regularly scheduled meeting. Annual association dues are waived for life members.
HONOURARY – this may be granted to any person who has performed some distinguished service to the Victoria Legal Support Staff Association or to the community in general, and who is not already a member.
AFFILIATE – A membership may be granted to any member of an affiliated association of the Victoria Legal Support Staff Association, provided the individual is currently involved in the legal field Affiliation.
Please note that active members and life members only are eligible to vote and hold office.
Annual Membership fees of $40 for active members and $25 for associate and affiliate members are due on the 1st day of April each year. A membership application must be completed and forwarded along with a cheque made payable to the Victoria Legal Support Staff Association.
Dinner meetings are held at the Comfort Hotel (formerly Holiday Inn), 3020 Blanshard Street with cocktails at 5:30 PM and dinner at 6:00 PM on the second Tuesday or Wednesday of February, April, June, September and November with our Annual Silent Auction the first week of December. The cost is $25.00 for members and $30.00 for non-members and includes dinner, dessert, coffee or tea and a different speaker each month. An additional benefit to membership is discounted legal education courses offered through the Victoria Legal Support Staff Association.
